no. no i dont. but i'd like to. anyone want to help me out with some tutoring?
Waar te beginnen? (where to begin?)
The dutch language has simplified alot over the past 10 years, and if you look carefully alot of the english words resemble the dutch ones.
Laat mij eens weten wat je will leren en hoever je al bent in je kennis van de nederlandse taal.
Let me know what you want to learn and how far you already are in your knowledge of the dutch language.
A common mistake people make is calling dutch flemish and viceversa, Flemish is the dialect spoken in the flemish part of Belgium it has alot of side dialects. Dutch is what we call nederlands it is the ''clean'' version of the language. The difference between Holland dutch and Belgium dutch is like american english and british english. It is english but still different in intonation and the meaning of certain words. But don t worry people will understand you nomatter what side of the border you are on.
The dialects vary from area to area, like Texas to Florida or Mississipi to Vermont sounds all different but still english.
But as long as you know the clean version you are ok.
Sorry, I didn't mean to be too academic but I thought it to be important.
Laat ons op een terrasje zitten, een pintje bestellen en gezellig babbelen.
Dus, laat nog wat horen en tot later mischien.
Groetjes,

Where in the bay area are you, I am in San Jose, maybe we could get together once in a while and practice pronounciation.
that would be great! i'm in half moon bay, but i'm willing to drive. so far my personal instruction has been in gent. also i listen to a teach yourself dutch cd which i think is more amsterdamish. at least it sounds like it to my untrained ear. where are you from?
I am from Leuven. But please feel free to write to me in dutch.
Well the Amsterdammers pronounce their ''g'' more like a rolling growl, while in flemish you pronounce it harder, drier.
But it would help you to get together with a native speaker and cheque pronounciation.
Did you understand what I wrote to you in dutch in my previous mail?
What would also help is get a dutch magazine or book or paper and try to read as you go, you will notice that alot of the words are similar.
Let me know when is a good time or day for you.
i do tend to pronounce my g's in the flemish style, but the only auditory reminders of the language i get are from hollanders. i could understand some of the sentance you wrote. i have to look at each word and think about it. i've got a few childrens books, a text book, and a few girlie magazines (flair and libelle). mostly what kicks my ass is the subtle vowel sounds. i've got some hardcore mid terms this week, dose some time next week sound good? i cant tell you how excited i am.
